Restaurant des Remparts

We visited Gruyere yesterday and decided out of all the lovely restaurants up in the Chateau courtyard we would go to Restaurant Des Remparts for a drink and a famous fondue. What a mistake that was. It was a beautiful afternoon and we waited patiently...for an outside table for 15 mins. During this time noone came to ask us what we were waiting for or inform us how long a table would be. We were just left waiting there despite staff coming out the restaurant to serve other customers seated outdoors. Finally a couple finished and hesitantly we headed to that table and sat down. À la recherche d'un restaurant pour le repas de midi, nous avons opté pour cet endroit et nous avons été enchantés ! Accueil chaleureux par du personnel souriant. Nous avons été placés à la véranda (magnifique vue). Carte variée mais sans excès. En plus il y a la carte estivale et même des mets-spécialités de chanterelles. La croûte au fromage est excellente. L'assiette de Roastbeef est généreuse ! Les desserts sont servis avec de la véritable crème de Gruyères et les bricelets sont faits maison ! Un régal ! Même si certaines personnes trouvent les prix élevés, il s'agit ici, à notre avis, d'un excellent rapport qualité-prix ! On recommande ce restaurant et nous y reviendrons !

There are quite a number of similar looking restaurants in the main road of this village. We’d made the booking before arriving and so wandered up somewhat open minded. The greeting and service was friendly and informal. We had the “cook yourself” BBQ, a raclette...and a rosti. They were all very good and, by Swiss standard, reasonably priced

Agréable moment lors de notre passage pour le repas de midi. En entrée : cassolette de chanterelles et pour le plat principal tartiflette et croûte au fromage. Repas traditionnels de la région qui étaient délicieux ! Et en plus avec une magnifique vue ! Je le recommande lors de votre visite à Gruyère ! Reserva una mesa ahora

Fondue eccellente. Anche la carne molto buona. Il servizio cordiale e professionale, peró ha difficoltà con lingue straniere (abbiamo aiutato due turisti inglesi per ordinare). Peró questo rende il tutto pittoresco :)Porzioni abbondanti. Grazie mille

Fondue moitié-moitié was great but not the best I've ever had. Macaroni was sensational. Four stars went to five thanks to the friendly and helpful server who made great suggestions about meal serving sizes and dishes to take.

Vi var på besøg i Gruyeres og trængte til en god kop kaffe og det fik vi bestemt her. Vi kunne se, at den mad de serverede bestemte og så godt ud - så næste gang vi kommer her skal vi smage deres ostefondue.

Had the fondue for 1, the terrine, and salad. They were delicious. Great setting looking at people go by. The for desert had the merengue with Gruyère cream. Wow Reserva una mesa ahora

Lovely spot for a pre dinner drink. Being Switzerland, not cheap. 32 fr for 4 drinks. Service was good.
