This was booked as a birthday treat. There was only one option at booking for price which said from £16.50. We got there and stood waiting for a while (the place was empty) to be seated. On the menu I had viewed it said there was salmon, and as neither of us liked that I asked if this could be changed. The lady never came back to us to ask what we would like in exchange in stead the next time we saw her she was bringing out the food. What we were given was nothing like what was on the menu but we didn't complain and ate it. It was no where near as good as what we were expecting. We never saw the waitress again and were there for 1.5 hours so didn't get asked if we would like any more drinks....
I called earlier to confirm my reservation for the afternoon, and I received assurance based on my receipt. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, it became clear that they were not prepared for our afternoon booking. We were given menus, but it seemed like an unexpected situation. While we were offered some coffee, I had to request additional servings. The selection of pre-packaged cakes and the limited options for hot refreshments made the £20 per person price seem excessive. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with both the service and the quality of the food.
The hotel and restaurant looked tired and in need of upgrading. The paint was peeling from the garden furniture and they had broken slabs everywhere as well. The food was way over priced. I had the burger and it was supposed come with chutney but it came with tomato sauce and a bit of onion in it. Chips were packet chips. They charged £15 for that and an additional £1 for bacon or cheese. I wouldn’t recommend here at all for anywhere near good value tor money. Staff where nice though.
I had tea at the Tickled Trout this afternoon and was disappointed to find that, while I had booked for £16 per person, I was charged £19 per person at the hotel, despite my complaint about it. The offerings included the cheapest sandwiches on basic bread, some cake, and a lovely scone. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, although I must say that the atmosphere and service were both good.

It felt like they were not expecting us. No table set , no table cloth , table was sticky. No tea served with afternoon tea? We had to ask for it. Sandwiches were limp and fillings skimpy. All food brought at same time. Clotted cream for scones was whipped cream. Just altogether a very poor effort.
Absolutely terrible. The place was dirty. They were expecting us for an afternoon tea, but kept coming out to tell us that they didn't have something. After the 3rd item that they had run out of, (I'm not sure how, we were the only people in the whole restaurant) we left. 0/10 would not recommend.
The service was quite slow; we waited half an hour for our food, despite the restaurant not being very busy. The meal was rather disappointing, as the salad consisted only of lettuce leaves. However, the decor and atmosphere were enjoyable.
The food was satisfactory, well-prepared, and served nicely. However, the prices for food and drinks were high. The atmosphere was somewhat lacking, as there were only three other guests in a large dining area.

We stopped on route to the Lakes for lunch. All the toilets were blocked so had to go next door to the BP service station. Not acceptable for such a large hotel.
