Looks can be deceiving. But for me, I knew it was going to be great when I walked in. My wife had the fried green tomato BLT, my son had a burger, and I had the sample plate with fried corn. Oh my god! The corn was perfect and the wings that came with my plate were the absolute best wings I’ve ever had. I wasn’t crazy about the pulled pork. It’s not bad, it just didn’t rock my world like those wings did. The family loved it. We will be back.
Made a detour to the airport to stop in Saw's in Avondale. We all had the pulled pork sandwiches, first bite I was concerned, but the second bite was flavorful and everything you would want from a pulled pork sandwich. Do not expect stale plastic booths and shinny tile floor in this joint, the place has character, the kind that draws you back. Next trip through Birmingham it's back to Saws for the burger.
While visiting Avondale Brewing Co, I decided I wanted to grab a bite. The bartender recommended Saw's. Always one for good BBQ/soul food, I swung in. Super cozy space, friendly staff, and a solid menu. I got my pulled pork sandwich and fries within five minutes of ordering. The pork is tender and flavorful (literally typing this as I eat at the Avondale bar). Well worth it. Kudos to you guys!
I haven't had food this delicious since my Great-Grandmother quit cooking. I have missed her fried okra since 1990. This okra was, I am sad to say, even better than my Mimi's fried okra. A BBQ place with white sauce was wheat-free option! We got our food quickly, and it was AMAZING! I had one of the baked potatoes, my daughter had a BBQ chicken plate, and my husband had a regular pulled pork BBQ sandwich. By far the best food we had during our weekend stay in Birmingham.
Had a great experience at Saw’s! Loved the food and the hole in wall experience. Staff really hustles to get the orders out and it was a fun experience seeing them work like a team! Great neighborhood and friendly!
