We had walked some way in snow and sub-zero temperatures to arrive in the wonderful Black Forest small town of Hinterzarten and found this place for eats and drinks. It fitted the requirements perfectly:welcoming staff, warm atmosphere, local drinks (beer and wine), a range of meals from local specialities to internationally commonplace, large or small, all reasonably priced.What was bad about it?: prising yourself out of the chair to put three more layers of clothes on to go out again.Despite that, the walk was great too.PS: Excuse me not scoring the outdoor seating.
I'll cut it short to what frustrated me: the food was clearly reheated in a microwave because everything was really dry all around, especially at the top. The food was advertised as local and the ingredients and recipe might have been but the preparation certainly wasn't. An unfriendly welcome and short, unpolite and hasty waitress on top of that doesn't make it better either.Meh
Loved the atmosphere. A great place to sit, relax, have a beer, and a very good, meal that didn't break the travel account. Many of the patrons there were locals (or tourists who had spent far too much time there) with a lively atmosphere, and our server never rushed us. I'm glad we stopped in and would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
We enjoyed a late lunch here on a hot day. The service was exceptional and the staff happily spoke English and provided us with English menus. We travel a great deal so this is not expected or necessary, but it was a nice little bonus. The food was good and served quickly. We have saved this location to return to for overnight stays as well!

Real advantage is that the restaurant has 3 different menu cards (noon/eve, afternoon, after 9 pm); terrace is alongside the main street (but in the facts quite calm), inside two dinning rooms and a bar. Honest German food and good service. For us an 'evergreen' as we go there every time we are in Hinterzarten.
We have eaten here the past 2 nights and we've both tried something different each time. We can honestly say the food was delicious & we received a good service. They offer an English menu which was great as neither of us know much German. I'm sure we will visit again before we leave.
Had a yummy salad with pork. Big dish. Excellent! Rustic style restaurant, serving German-style food, with average prices considering the location. Fast service besides being really full on the day I ate here.
We ate here after arriving very late in Hinterzarten. One friendly staff member but the rest were, a bit odd and unfriendly. Felt like if you were not local you were not welcome. Food average.

Foud lousy, service lousy. If it is a rainy day, you might take a drink there. But dont order food. There are better places.
4 of us had 3 different meals on 3 different nights. All excellent and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly and helpful.
