Today, I had a negative experience with the door person at a restaurant. I was with my Italian female friend, and I am of Caribbean descent. It was clear that the doorman did not want to let us in because we were a mixed-race couple. He gave a weak excuse about my belt not being properly buckled. It was disappointing since my friend and I have frequented this pub on many Fridays. It's sad that we were stopped from enjoying our time and spending our money at our local pub. I didn't cause a scene as I didn't want to embarrass my friend, but this behavior is unacceptable. Management, take note of this incident.
This pub has great live music but unfortunately, the staff can be sexist. While it is one of the best places in London for entertainment, it can be difficult to enjoy a drink without experiencing sexist comments from male bar staff. I was made extremely uncomfortable when one staff member lightly hit me on the head after I declined a high five. Inappropriate jokes and comments followed, including mocking my dietary choices. Women should be able to enjoy a drink without being subjected to this kind of behavior. It's time for the staff to mature and show some respect in this day and age.
The Bartender refuses to serve us because one of us was wearing sweatpants, we thought was a joke as we use to go there in sweatpants all the time, especially when we used to go there to watch football matches. I use to go at The Finsbury couple of times per month, for 3 years, so I was quite shocked of this new rule.. Also, because is not mentioned on the web site and also from the security at the entrance. I've sent an email on the web site asking explanations about this new policy but no answer.
Great location for public transport and the park, and a good selection of food and drinks, both bottled and on draft. Unfortunately it also seems to double up as a creche on weekday afternoons from around 3pm with kids playing football in the live music room. This makes it difficult to get to/from the back area and toilets, especially with drinks, and makes it impossible to have a quiet drink in the garden. Good for lunchtime drinks but leave before school turnout time.
I used to love the atmosphere of this place. A nice and relaxed live music venue with great pizzas and nice staff. Not so much now though, after we've being assaulted by the door man and called the C-word just because we wanted to re-enter the venue to collect our musical equipment. Security should be there to protect people, not to push them or make threats. Security should make people want to come back. Security shouldn't assault customers and/or performers!
A cracking pub, for exactly that! Good drink selection, nice indoor and outdoor spaces. The food is hit and miss on occasion. And the recent change in security is now not welcoming in the slightest which is a big turn off. Occasionally the music can be distracting and overwhelming if sat inside but is also a nice addition to a typical pub. Regardless, for a pint in a beer garden this is perfect.
Nice spot opposite Finsbury Park, have visited three times for drinks and always found it clean, pleasant and the service good. My husband commented later in the evening that the beer didn't taste good, but the G&T was fine! I believe they have a lot of live music but we were attending an event in the park so didn't see it.
