I have been to the Gort on a couple of occasions and have never been disappointed.There is ample free parking though that may sometimes mean crossing a busy off ramp of traffic from the St. James Bridge. Stairs or an elevator will take the patron to the second floor dining room. The service is earnest and enthusiastic. On one occasion we were late for a concert and the staff moved us through quickly; the other time we were able to linger and the staff was accommodating again. The food on both occasions was well presented and tasty.
We tried the lunch hour soup and salad buffet. While there were plenty of offerings nearly every one I tried was disappointing. The shrimp in the seafood were smelly. The crab? was hard. Potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked. The fruit was old and soft. The two layer cakes had dried edges from being cut too long, but once inside were tasty. The table service was excellent. The coffee was good. If lots of food is your aim this is a good choice. If tasty food is, try somewhere else.
my wife and I were in the viscount gort several times. we stayed this year twice with all the precautions for covid. we find the staff very polite, helpful, welcome and friendly. the personal is like an extension of the family. we were impressed by the way the Covid facilities were located and placed and we were new in a safe building. we do not hesitate to recommend the viscount gort as hotel, stay in and dine in restaurant or lounge.
The Mother’s Day brunch was planned poorly. No scrambled eggs and what they did serve as an egg dish was watery. The potatoes were the cheap cubed frozen ones, not even home made or fresh. There was chicken in some spicy sauce and meatballs, both of which were cold. Who has that as part of a breakfast brunch! Very poor planning on their part.

We stayed at the Viscount for 3 nights, and it was nice to have the restuarant as an option at the end of some long, busy days. Staff friendly. It was very quiet on a Saturday evening, but we were also eating later than usual. Big portions of both the Chicken Souvlaki option and the Prime Rib special.
A group of us met for supper in midweek. Menu had a lot of options in various price range as well there was a dry rib special. Food was tasty and service was very attentive and fast. Server was on top of things and back several times to replenish our beverages. Very enjoyable night out.
Sunday Brunch was very good. There was a salad, dessert, and hot food sections. My favourite was the omelette station, the cook made a delicious omelette and kept every one entertained with polite conversation. The servers were friendly and attentive. Overall experience was wonderful.
Great food and prices are reasonable. I would recommend the Irish Stew it is what I had and was a good size portion and tasty. You left feeling full.

It is a large, roomy restaurant and staff were helpful but the food was just ok. I wouldn't choose to eat here again.
always great food and service. and the price of breakfast specialties can not be beaten.
