Popped in to the Lord Nelson for a drink with our little dog as it was recommended by the campsite we were staying on. The menu looked great so the next day on our bus trip back from York we stayed on the bus the extra mile to the pub to eat. Young guy at the bar said no to the dog in the restaurant (understandable) but then no to serving us food in the bar as it might get busy later (it was 6.00pm and we would have been gone by 7.30). Young lady behind the bar suggested to him that we could have a table in the corner of the bar but he wouldn 't budge. Very disappointed and long walk back to campsite.
Well what can I say, the best Sunday Lunch every. The beef/pork/chicken were all beautiful. The yorkshire puds light and crispy. The roast potatoes fluffy inside crisp outside. Cauliflower cheese yummy, lots of sauce, other veg all cooked to perfection. Extra gravy in a little jug. Pete thinks of everything and is a great cook. The starters and sweets were a gorgeous. Thank you Tom and your team we loved everything.
We enjoyed some really nice tapas food that arrived hot, fresh and tasty and we accompanied it with some bread. Our favourite dish was the crab risotto arancini. The service was excellent as was the ambience. The only downside is that it was very hot within the restaurant area and we would have been more comfortable if there was a window or door open to allow some fresh air in.
I brought my Dad,93 , for lunch on a lovely sunny day so we ate in the pleasant garden. Interesting menu with daily specials at a reasonable price. Very friendly landlord, nothing too much trouble. The fresh crab salad was excellent and Dad enjoyed his hot pork ciabatta with gravy, chips and salad. We will be back!

We arrived after a recommendation from some one local. The food we had (tapas) was one of the best I have ever tasted. Meatballs, beef, chicken, prawns mushrooms, Freshly cooked and so amazing I am glad we did not have time for dessert as we were totally stuffed. Amazing restaurant amazing food. We will be back
Absolutely 1st class Sunday lunch. Great choice on the menu and real ales. Red hot plates Freshly cooked tasting food. Fabulous service You would be daft not to go and their tapas during the week is immense. And Pete's just finished his pizza van for now. Great job Tom and team.
Very poor Sunday lunch. The beef was like watery leather. I thought it was just me but everyone else had an unsatisfactory experience. Wine and glasses sea low grade. It’s a shame as it’s a nice looking pub and staff were ok. Won’t hurry back
A destination pub and restaurant for sure. Visiting a friend in Nether Poppleton and she recommended the Nelson. Great beers, the Michelin stsndard food was exceptional and friendly staff and all in a traditional village pub setting

We have been here several times over the last year,the staff are always very welcoming and the food is exceptional. The beer is on song .Tapas is special. Sunday Roast to die for, highly recommended.
Great variety of drinks all staff very friendly and welcoming, the food was amazing. Would highly recommend pub for all the family with amazing food and service. 9.7/10 (nowehere gets a 10)
