We had a gorgeous Mothers Day roast. The food was excellent, can’t fault! The only thing I will say is the service was okay but a little strange. We had a girl who said someone would take a drinks order, no one came. The table next to us were seated after us and got served before us. We had to ask for menus and a drinks order. The food was prompt fantastic. One server commented on how stressful the day had been twice over we didn’t ask? One server told us she was new. And another asked if we had a nice meal, apart from the beer around the water glass (from when he bought our drinks over) which sounded kind of sarcastic or he was just saying what he was thinking. At one point, he asked if we wanted to order dessert, and we agreed. He promised to bring us the menu after he finished with the table next to us, but it seemed he forgot about us because it took a while to receive it. When he finally returned to take our order, my husband placed his order and I requested two cappuccinos, which he repeated back to me. Our desserts arrived fairly quickly, but the cappuccinos never came. After my husband mentioned this to the kindly manager, she informed us that the order hadn’t been taken down. Highly recommended pub! We visited as a family and were greeted with excellent hospitality and delicious food. We tried the pork dish, which was expertly prepared with love and care. It was also very filling! They have a great selection of local ales on tap. We even booked to come back the next day to try more of the menu. The location is lovely, with free parking right in front. Don’t hesitate—just go!

My partner and I dined here last night while I was on vacation nearby, and it was an incredible experience! The interior was charming and cozy, and the staff were friendly and attentive. If you're really hungry, come here to eat! the staff here was so friendly and full of good local advice. this is usually not the kind of place I would choose, I really prefer right country pubs, but not much was opened in the backwaters of devon on a Monday evening, so really glad that we found the gay and whistle. Come back here.

Excellent experience from booking to eating, ended up being 30 mins late for our booking due to a cow herd on the moove, they were super accommodating, friendly and a good laugh! Food very nice, I’ve been going to the pig and whistle for a number of years now. I usually have a pleasant time there and the food is usually top quality. How ever one bar maid named (Lisa) I found very unpleasant and rude! And I would not recommend going there if she is working.

We had the 10 pound menu we had chicken and ham pie the pie was OK but the presentation was not good and is was cold the only heating was a oil field heater with only 3 wheels not very safe Service: 2
