Y14 Japanese Seafood Kitchen & Bar

The quality of the food at Y14 during our recent visit is absolutely worth commenting on... We started with Gyoza and Tofu, added some kingfish and then finished with mixed sashimi and every dish was delicious and beautifully presented.It was relatively late, so quiet, and on a balmy Melbourne night we sat outside to dine. My Asahi was icy cold and my partner's Pinot Grigio crisp and a great choice.There are no airs nor graces in terms of the decor. It reminds me of the myriad small cafes in Tokyo.... clean, simple and fun and the service was friendly and attentive. There were also nice touches like quality Japanese plates and bowls, etc.But I keep coming back to the food. Great raw material...

We enjoyed a very nice meal here the other night. They have the standard dishes and some with their own signature like the Baked Scallops which were outstanding. The rest was all good though the Tempura was a little hard on the batter. I like the super light crispy batter, while the Tempura here was quite hard batter wise.The only other thing is the price. this place is not a cheap eats destination and expect to pay $50-$70 per person if you want a dose or two of Sake.Service was freindly and effective.I would definitely return if and when we visit again.

This is not a genuine Japanese restaurant as I know them apart from the authentic decor and a Japanese chef. We tried a few different dishes, some that seemed strange for this cuisine and can only assume its a modern Japanese fare? They do need to do something about their frying oil as any fried food is a little soggy. The place is very small and you really need to book. Nice friendly staff.We were very surprised that they didn't accept American Express as they were named on the Amex shop small list for November.

From the moment we entered the restaurant, the attention to detail was perfect. The greeting was genuine and friendly. The menu was interesting and included specials that were appealing including oven baked scallops. Other dishes we tried included Gyoza and a sushi sashimi platter were very high quality. What a lovely little restaurant. We love Japanese and this place is awesome. The service was great and service excellent. We didn't know what to order, so the arranged a banquet for 3 of us. This consisted of an assortment of Japanese specials, sushi, prawns, oysters. Fully licensed.

Went there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The food was excellent - good value for money. The service very good, courteous and professional. I am so pleased this place has opened in Sandringham and will be back !

Y14 serves modern dishes that combine Japanese technique with Australian produce. Eat-in, or takeaway. Try the Donburi ‘rice bowl dish’ consisting of fish, meat, vegetables and more. Recommended.

Average meal not really Authentic Japanese. I had fish and chips but fish was just fish deep fried and a lot of sweet potato chips. My wife had slow cooked beef.

Been having dinner and lunch since opening and it has been consistently good. Cannot fault always fresh and delicious.
