No complaints about the food. Food was your very typical breakfast. I'm giving 3 stars because of the service. I understand that at certain times seating becomes a little harder to do so quickly. But when you see people being seated who showed up after you, with parties comparable to yours, I think that's when you should really evaluate how you handle and seat people. We waited over 45 mins for a 20-25 min wait. Parties that had more adults than children were made priority. And a hostess telling us, that party had 1 less person than us was unbelievable. Especially when that extra person in our party was a child. Sorry, but my child is just as much a paying guest as the adult walking in after...
I visited Black Bear Diner around 5 PM on a weekday. After placing my order, I overheard the waiter telling the table behind me that they were out of chicken pie. However, it took him another 10-15 minutes to inform me, during which time he mostly stood at the front chatting with a coworker, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. I also had to cancel my order for a brownie sundae because they were out of brownies as well. On a previous weekend morning visit, despite the crowd, the food and service were much better. A tip: if you notice few cars in the parking lot during peak hours, it might be worth reconsidering dining there—there’s often a reason for it.
The restaurant was busy during lunchtime. The kids' menu portions are just right—my 6-year-old finished his meal of two pancakes, one egg, one sausage, and one bacon strip. My other son ordered the BIGFOOT chicken fried steak, which came with two pieces of chicken fried steak and potatoes. It looked great, and he said it tasted good, though the biscuits that came with it were not very fresh. I had the cheeseburger salad, which was excellent! It had crispy lettuce, chopped red onion, pickles, bacon, and cheese. I would definitely order it again!
I've seen these diners all over the place and finally decided to give one a shot. The food was outstanding—the pancakes were spot-on, and the portion sizes were quite generous. The breakfast sausage was impressively big, too! I couldn't resist sampling a cup of chili, which was topped with fresh red onions, so make sure to mention that if you're not a fan. I thought it was delicious. The servers were friendly, although they did seem a bit hurried. They overlooked a few things I had asked for, but I didn't mind too much.

The food at Black Bear Diner is good. The only downside was the outdoor seating—it was extremely hot the day we visited, making it uncomfortable. Additionally, they didn’t have the green beans for the turkey dinner I ordered. Despite that, I still recommend this place overall.
One of the best breakfast spots we've found in Buena Park. It gets pretty crowded on Sunday mornings, but weekdays are usually fine. The food is tasty, and the portion sizes are generous. The staff is incredibly friendly. We enjoyed it so much that we went back twice!
We came here with our high school archery team and everyone ordered individually with fantastic service created and a really fun time by everyone. Highly recommend for coming to celebrate an event or a fundraiser or anything for a large group.
Stopped by to have the eggs and smoked bacon!!! Did not disappoint! Love this place.Our waitress Patty showed us genuine southern hospitality…she’s the best.
