So my husband and I took the ferry to Levis and went back to Quebec City after sunset..we walked up to see the Castle..did a little bit of shopping..it was after 9.30pm and we were looking to eat something..something light..so we looked up local cafes..all were closed or closing soon. ES cafe in Levis was open! So we drove over it was a 20 min drive. It was empty..obviously it was getting close to closing time (11pm). There was a gentleman seated there reading his newspaper and having a cup of (coffee, i think). He glanced at us..and smiled. We were on short business cum fun trip. Came across this cafe, as we were looking for some light snacks and cappuccino. Well it was great find, it is something to take back to US, thats how “cafe” should be. Okay so I ordered in French and I was wondering what I will actually get for breakfast. But hey, that's half the fun of traveling. When the plate was finally put in front of me I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. A bacon studded bread with ham and a fried egg (fried to perfection, I might add). And a beautiful bouquet of fresh fruits. I am not one to take pictures of my food (because usually I'm done chowing it down by the time I think of getting my cell phone out). But this time the plate was so picturesque...I thought of taking a photo before destroying it all.
This is one of my favorite. The coffee is always good, the expresso or latte at the right temperature. Whether you want to stop for breakfast, for a pastry and coffee or those fabulous sandwich and salads, the food, the friendly and kind service and the ambiance will not deceive you. Finding a table might be at some times during the day, a little challenge since it seems to be a familiar spot with students who forgot that libraries are there for that... ! Nevertheless, give it a try!
I came on a sunday with my family and there were 3 staff that could serve us. 5 min later we were told to move to the cash to place our order. There was nobody in the cafe so mo rush but the service was slow and complex. Disappointing because normally the service is faster. The cashier did not seem to know where orders needed to go.... all in all a let down.
We enjoyed a light and healthy early dinner of homemade minestrone soup, salad with mixed fresh greens and apple slices, and chicken club grilled flatbread sandwich. Everything was delicious, including the coffee. Our waiter was patient, gracious and helpful in taking our order, as my high school French is a very rusty.
