Very disappointed, ordered the special filet mignion medium rare; most tasteless $65 piece of meat I have ever come accross! The veal picanta was over done and over floured, the sauce was over powered with capers, nothing subtle or flavourful. It was busy, so we forgive our server for not bringing a steak knife until asked, not offering parmeagan for the pasta until asked, etc.... In short very meidiocre food, frightfully overpriced. The food at this restaurant is incredible, but it's best to order it for takeout. We tried the Pasta with Meatballs and the Veal Francesco, both of which were delicious, especially the meatballs. However, we encountered some issues with the service. The restaurant is two stories and it seems like the servers are responsible for tables on both levels, causing them stress. We witnessed two servers arguing in the upstairs dining room over a misplaced plate of food. Our order was eventually brought to the wrong table by someone who seemed to be working in the kitchen, leading to confusion. Our experience at this restaurant was a mix of positive and negative. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, seating us at the bar due to a long wait list. The bartender who served us was friendly and talkative. The baked oyster appetizer we tried was unique but small for the price. Despite this, it was a good experience overall. However, the fettuccine Alfredo we ordered was a major disappointment. The wait was long and the sauce was bland, tasting lower quality than store bought. We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. Our entrees were delicious. The blonde-haired gentleman serving us was attentive, professional, and very friendly. He assisted us with choosing our wine and entrees. We will definitely return. The food was enjoyable, however, the service was lacking. The waiter seemed overwhelmed with the upstairs tables, leading to delays in receiving the bread, drinks, and meals all at different times. I had to constantly ask for items from the waiter. I will try dining on the bottom floor next time to see if the service improves.
Ristorante Filippo is a hidden gem in Metairie, just off Causeway, and one of the best Italian restaurants in New Orleans. The cozy ambiance with dim lighting sets the perfect mood. The House Cabernet pairs well with the delicious lasagna. The service, food, and atmosphere all receive a perfect score of 5.
