Had an excellent night out at Hats Tatts with Mr B on Wednesday night. Walking into the old Southern Cross Hotel one is hit with a welcoming smoky smell in the air. The BBQ meat kind of smoky smell that instantly stirs one's appetite. The bar is full of various bottles, dangling cans and artefacts. A very friendly beardy man greeted us instantly and requested whether we were here for food, drinks or both. Upon an answer of both, we were given our food menus and a casual tour of the drinks available. Came in for a couple of beers and a feed on Friday night and left with a rather pleasurable experience. The set-out is very much like American dive bar with countless bottles of burbons behind the bar. Then there is a room with an open fire place which was great for a cold Friday night. For the food we ordered the chicken wings for an entree which were pretty stock standard chicken wings. Nice and spicy and enjoyable but no better or worse than most other places. Then I had the brisket burger which was on a whole new level. I have no idea how they managed to get that brisket so **** tender but they did and I loved it!

My favourite place in the city. Welcoming, friendly, awesome staff who will help you find a drink you like from their massive selection. The cocktail menu changes quite regularly. If you're into rum, head upstairs to the rum bar.The music is superb. A huge range of mostly metal/ grunge but with a nice mix of Motown, prog, pop and indie thrown in. They also do great food: the cheesburger with a bacon weave is top notch.

Outstanding service just ask for a recommendation... trust me they will find you something cool you have never tried. 1st floor is a whiskey bar and there is a rooftop rum bar both with interesting choices. You will not go thirsty here. Also they have cheese waffles as their bar snack for only $9.
Hats Tatts is the place to go if you're looking to try something different! The music is amazing, I even added their playlist to my Spotify. The food is a great value for the price, and they always have interesting premium beer options that change frequently.
My Favourite bar ever. Amazing selection and the staff are the best mix of friendly and knowledgeable. One of the few places you can just chill and have a boilermaker, but you can also order elite cocktails from talented staff.
divisible in cbd. excellent moods, bar employees know their ghosts. rock music all night. has melbourne feeling hidden bar. hard to find! 10/10 recommend
