We placed our food order, but someone else brought our meals to the table. I understood that the staff might be busy, but I noticed our waitress chatting with other servers the entire time. After we finished eating, it took her 20 minutes to check back in. When I mentioned that I didn’t think she would come back, she explained that she had to handle takeout orders. I asked another employee if takeout orders should take priority over dine-in customers, and she said, “no.”

This restaurant served the best food I’ve experienced in Chicago so far. This is my fourth time visiting Chicago, and we decided to have dinner at J. Alexander's. Our waitress, Olivia, recommended that my wife try the crab cakes, which were fantastic with generous chunks of crab. I opted for the salmon burger. Since my wife doesn't eat much, I always enjoy taking her out to eat! The mashed potatoes and broccoli were honestly the best I’ve ever had. Their coleslaw was perfectly made as well. My salmon burger was incredibly tasty and juicy; everything was excellent. Thank you, Olivia, for your wonderful service. I hope to see you again!
Nice place. Will give it 5 stars, because I am nice, though it is probably closer to a 4.5 in my heart. It is a lively, slightly upscale, American restaurant and bar with great drinks and good food. I will say that the Chicago ribeye is not very good as far as ribeyes go. It was cooked fine but I believe it was a select cut that is just not worth the price. I will stick to normal entres in the future but I do recommend checking this place out because it was otherwise fantastic.

Don’t order take out… Ordered two ahi tuna dinners for pickup on a long drive as opposed to fast food. When we got our food the only things that were warm were the broccoli and beets. The seared ahi tuna and orzo/wild rice were ice cold, as if they’d been in the fridge for hours. Not sure if they prepped and never reheated but it was a huge bummer considering it was a total of $100 for a takeout meal and we have a ways to go on our drive.
The atmosphere would be fantastic if it weren't for the TVs showing sports. The service, however, is excellent. The waitress was friendly, attentive, and kept everything clean. Unfortunately, the food is lacking. I ordered a $50 steak that tasted like a piece of frozen rubber. I felt like I got ripped off.
Girls lunch in…The service was wonderful! The food was served hot delicious. Have been dining here for decades. This place to date has never disappointed us. Parking: The lot is usually full no matter what time we go. I was not able to find a handicap space but that would not stopping from going there.
Our server, Vlad, was very kind and attentive! The food selection was better than I thought, and everything we ordered tasted delicious. Large portions too! You can really taste the freshness of their ingredients ? Had the best coleslaw ever, will be returning!

Excellent food, our waiter was perfect, atmosphere was just right for 3 of us to relax and chat and have a great meal. I have been here several times before and would go again soon !
