When we are visiting friends in Beaujolais it has become a tradition that we always have a "light" lunch at the Cafe de Sport.I was concerned that there was a reference to the "Cafe" being closed, but there was another review albeit from some time ago ref the "Restauarant"We pitched up on Thursday 5 June and the terrace was full of locals with only one other english coupleWe have a tradition of always having the Beaujolais salad, a plate full of leaves croutons, lardons topped with a poached egg and great dressings.It only appears to be light in reality it is a full meal and is well recommended as is the warm goats cheese salad or the Terrine A great place off the square, serving local Fleurie and Beaujolaise wine, and a delightful place for lunch
I spent 2 days in Fleurie, and this was our local bar. Evening drinks, and morning coffee were enjoyed, with the place really buzzing in the early and late evening, although much quieter for morning coffee, with the locals going in for their early alcohol.At all times I found the serving staff efficient , friendly and hard working. The proprietor also very friendly.I've not eaten here but suggest the menu is good value with local dishes, (eg Oeufs en Murette)and will certainly give it a try next visit. Everything a local village bar in Beaujolais area old be!
The service at this cafe is the worst I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. An extremely unfriendly unhelpful young waitress who either can't stand tourists, or English people or both, eventually took our order after 20-30 minutes. It took an hour and a half to get a starter and a a main course to the table. We lost the will to wait for desert, or coffee, or even the bill, eventually just leaving the money on the table. Food was acceptable but avoid at all costs if you want to have any sense of being welcome or you are in any kind of a hurry.
The waitress couldn't even manage to say 'bon appetit' when she literally threw the plates in front of us. I saw her smile to other costumers so she was able of it, well not to us. It felt like we did something totally wrong but I didn't understand what. I have never felt so bad after eating in a restaurant, they were THAT unfriendly. The food was OK though but I never wan't to go bac there.
