After making a reservation on Wednesday for an outside dinner on Friday we presented ourselves at the hotel/ restaurant reception 8 PM. Apparently the management had decided to close the restaurant (for external guests that is, the hotel guests were dining happily! without making a...small effort to send a short notification by sms or without taking a minute of their time for a call… They did have our name and number to do so! Incredible! There you are, hungry, without any kind of possible alternative because all restaurants in the village were fully booked. we visited the grill for lunch, according to the many recommended we have seen online. the food was well cooked and steak nicely, served with small pots of dipping sauce, Brat-style kartoffels and mini-mais baskets. we felt it was a bit expensive. given the amount of food in total (the portions of meat were small and we expected more sweet on the side). our very young children did not want half the steak from the children's menu and the restaurant were inflexible about any alternatives the only possibility to order an adult part of something else. Overall, we would possibly return if we were close, but would feed our children to another place!
we ate in restaurant after a recommendation. eating was nice, especially the main dish fish dishes. we ate on the internal terrace as the restaurant was fully booked, but I am glad that we did it because it was not cold and there was enough heating. to keep us warm. the only negatiw was at the end of the evening. we asked for our bill and paid a generous tipp. However, some of the waiting employees were not aware that we had paid and planned to block our exits that felt very unpleasant.
We have been to this restaurant several years running. It’s one of our favourite places! The menu and the food are simple, but always delicious! I can’t eat shellfish and only eat a little fish, but what is on the menu is just amazing! The...fish is melt in your mouth and the accompaniments are very innovative and interesting! We treated ourselves to a lovely relaxed lunch on the nice courtyard terrace, sheltered from the sun by the umbrellas. Fillets of John Dory (St Peter's fish) accompanied by artichoke, asparagus, spinach, potatoes and truffle mash were delicious. To follow one had the signature roast...banana pineapple with grapes and grapefruit sorbet (excellent) , the other rum baba. Service was perfect. Accompanied by 500ml of Ile de Ré white, which was very good.
We write again....visited L'Ocean last night and once again, outstanding service and food. In the light of the pandemic, this felt a very safe place to be and enjoy excellent cuisine and service. Perfectly attentive but never overly so. We would all (kids included) recommend...L'Ocean by far our favourite restaurant (not just on Ile De Re). My husband as always, skipped dessert and went straight for the Irish Coffee. He is still saying try it!
