After visiting Semolina a couple of years ago for dinner and having a great experience, we were looking forward to returning on another trip to Brighton. However, the ridiculously lengthy service and mostly average food really let the place down and for the price point, there’s much better food and service in Brighton. We had an 8:30am sitting and waited around 50 minutes for a starter, with no explanation from staff other than a couple of reassurances that “it’s on the pass”. WOW, What a Menu! Full of flavours to set your taste buds alive. Wines to pair with each course. A glass of Ridgeview (which is rare, normal to purchase bottle) a Whisky Sour Cocktail. Mushroom starter was delicious. Pork Belly starter was bursting with flavours, so much so it was enjoyed for Dessert too!! The Venison main dish was, again, delicious with so many complementary flavours. Owner Chef, Orson, Thank You! Your passion and creativity with food is so deserved of a few Stars! Staff are so friendly and welcoming which adds to why you will return to enjoy your experience at this lovely Restaurant.
This place is our favourite restaurant and go to in Brighton. We love the unstuffy atmosphere staff are always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the food wine, but without airs and graces. The food is absolutely fantastic, changes seasonally and always balanced with good portion sizes. There's a nice variety of wine drinks and they're not outrageously expensive. Overall it gives you the feel of a really well run family Bistro on the continent. The emphasis is on fantastic food first and they make you feel at home, couldn't recommend more.
I had high hopes for Semolina, but unfortunately, I was left disappointed. The bread we started with was delicious, but the main course was a bland and tough piece of pork. The dessert tasted like a store-bought cake that had been burnt on the grill. In comparison, we had amazing meals at Burnt Orange and Terre à Terre. Despite being the most expensive meal of the weekend, Semolina was a letdown. It was so disappointing that I suspected there may have been issues in the kitchen, as our experience did not align with the positive reviews.

I hadn't been several years. I remembered good quality food with interesting ideas and flavours. I think it has got better... the price is higher £45 for three courses but the value is massive.... this is a great little restaurant. They did fine food but left it feeling unpretentious, it was such a relief. I had the squid, the pollock and the cheese board. The squid was particularly nice. The cheeseboard had some lovely cheese choices... Sussex food is great! Service was outstanding. The staff lovely.
This wasn't our first time at this restaurant, and it certainly won't be our last. It truly is a charming place, with staff who are welcoming, always smiling, and extremely helpful. The **** Mary cocktail with Chili and Bacon vodka is a must-try - I had two! The game terrine was exceptional, and the Rump beef main course was so tender it just melted in your mouth. The Sussex cheese selection was also spot on. Overall, it's a really friendly and lovely place. We can't wait to visit again.
This is a cosy and homely little place which feels a bit like someone's back room in a nice way ! The food was really tasty and interesting, they catered really well to our various dietary needs that we informed them about in advance. The service was friendly but the wait was almost comically long: so go with someone you haven't seen for a long time and with whom you have a lot of catching up to do, and then it will be fine.
Had a lovely meal last night. Consistently good, and the staff were wonderful. The dishes freshly cooked, with a lot of care and attention. Quiet on a Wednesday night, which is a sadness and reflects our times, but please go and support this established and hardworking business, you won't be disappointed.

The food was delicious with a cozy and non-pretentious atmosphere. The staff were lovely and friendly, making the experience truly welcoming. The restaurant is located in a great spot.
I really wanted to love this bistro but left a little disappointed. Due to service and availability of sides. The food itself was lovely but not sure if I would go back.
