I absolutely love this place. It may be a no-frills bar that attracts salty sailor types, but that's what makes it so charming. Officially, it serves as the clubroom for the Williamstown Maritime Association, but it's open to the public and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The tavern is located within the Seaworks precinct, where the Sea Shepherd ships are docked. Finding your way there can be a bit tricky the first time, but if you head left on Ann St from Nelson Pl towards the water, you'll spot some parking spaces along Ann St. Make sure to check out the historic bluestone morgue on the way and then pass through the gates into the industrial-looking port area. Follow the sign to Pirates Tavern, turn left, and you'll find it. Inside, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming in a rough and tumble sort of way. The bar is on the left and the stage is straight ahead. They offer live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and sometimes on Sundays too, typically catering to an older crowd. While the majority of patrons are on the older side, children and families are also welcome. There's no dress code here, so if you're looking for an elegant spot, this isn't it. Drinks are reasonably priced and there's a wide selection available. The service is genuinely friendly. Keep in mind that Pirates Tavern is only open on weekends from Friday night through Sunday night. If you visit on a Sunday afternoon, you can even take a free tour of the Sea Shepherd ship docked outside. It's a win-win!

Very disappointed with meal last night at Stag's Head. We were a party of three and we all ordered the Chicken Parmagiana. All three were completely raw inside. The male staff member who came from the kitchen after we sent all three back explained that this was due to recent order of schnitzels that were of increased thickness and they weren't used to cooking them yet?...Understand these things can happen but found the response pretty patronising and there was no apology albeit we did not pay for the meals we sent back.

Quaint hotel where we had dinner early (6:30pm). Was quiet at that time. Service was prompt, most courteous and friendly. We had beer battered fish and lamb shank finished with apple crumble. Really really nice and ample serving size. Have been there before and will return.

Heard about The Stags Head on moveable feast this morning. What a hidden treasure in the back streets of Williamstown. Food was brilliant, good wine list and lovely staff. This will be a new favourite haunt!
